BookLocker - Contract & Services Reviewed in The Fine Print of Self-Publishing
http://publishing.booklocker.com
FORMAT OF BOOKS: Ebook, paperback, and hardcover
GENRES ACCEPTED: BookLocker accepts all genres of nonfiction and fiction. The publisher does not select all submissions for publication, because the bulk of its money comes from selling books.
PUBLISHING FEES: BookLocker offers two publishing packages, one for black-and-white (http://publishing.booklocker.com/glance.html), and another for color. The latter will not be discussed here, but can be found at http://publishing.booklocker.com/booklocker-color-pod -program/.
Black-and-White Interior: This package is priced at $317 ($299 setup fee, plus $18 first annual print-on-demand file hosting fee). Authors must provide their own cover or purchase cover art from BookLocker, either custom-designed or template-based. For a paperback book, a template-based cover design costs $150, and a custom cover $200. BookLocker graphic artists work with authors to come up with cover ideas, if the author is paying for a custom design. Authors may provide images but are not required to do so. Minor changes are included in the price (i.e., font, color, copy), but if an author requires a full redesign of the cover, he or she will have to repay the cover fee. This package also includes:
• Interior formatting, including graphics, charts, and photos
• Choice of trim size:
5.5" x 8.5" 6" x 9" 8.25" x 11"
• Distribution through Ingram
• Listing with online booksellers: BarnesandNoble.com, Amazon .com, and others
• Free ebook version
• Printed physical proof: There are additional charges if you make changes ($99.50 after the electronic proof has been finalized, and $149 after the finalized PDF has been sent to the printer)
• ISBN (You can use your own, if you wish)
• Bar code
• Author blog (For an example, see http://travel.booklocker.com)
• Option to print in hardcover for an additional $300 with a custom cover or $250 with a template-based cover
• Option to list in the Ingram catalog, a one-time group print ad, for a $70 fee
